Semarang, May 18, 2025 – In the spirit of collaboration and institutional knowledge exchange, the Student Representative Council of the Faculty of Cultural Studies and Communication (DPM FIBK) at Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto (UMP) organized a program titled Legislatour in partnership with the Student Representative Council of the Faculty of Languages and Arts (DPM FBS) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). Legislatour is a forum that brings together student legislative organizations from different universities, aimed at strengthening relations and sharing best practices in organizational management.
The event took place on Saturday, May 18, 2025, from 08:00 to 14:00 WIB, at the FBS UNNES campus. The agenda began with presentations of each council’s work programs, followed by a Q&A session and a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences. Beyond formal institutional discussions, the event also featured icebreaking activities and a campus tour, introducing the FBS UNNES environment, which houses 20 active study programs.
Prior to the event, the organizers faced logistical challenges, particularly regarding transportation. The Legislatour was initially scheduled for May 17 but had to be rescheduled due to the unavailability of university buses, which were being used for other activities.
Meisya, the event coordinator and Chair of Commission 2 of DPM FIBK UMP, explained that this collaboration stemmed from intensive communication established with DPM FBS UNNES via social media.
“We were intrigued by their work programs, many of which focus on developing students’ potential and talents. From there, we initiated this collaboration as a means of mutual learning,” she said.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Meli, Treasurer of DPM FIBK UMP:
“The Legislatour visit to UNNES, particularly FBS, was an enriching experience that broadened our perspectives. We gained first-hand insight into their organizational systems and governance, from structure and work programs to the challenges they face. I believe this activity is highly effective—not only in expanding relations between student representative bodies but also in serving as a platform for reflection and benchmarking of our own systems at UMP. There are many valuable practices we can adapt and modify according to the needs of FIBK,” Meli shared.
Participants from UMP included the Executive Board (BPH), Commissions 1 through 4, and five active students from the 2nd and 4th semesters. Meanwhile, DPM FBS members represented UNNES during the event.
The Vice Dean for Student Affairs of FIBK UMP also expressed appreciation for this initiative:
“The Faculty of Cultural Studies and Communication views this activity as a positive form of collaboration between student representative organizations from two different universities. We hope this visit not only serves as a platform for sharing work programs and conducting comparative studies but also fosters continuous learning for the sustainability of student organizations in the future. We hope its impact can be felt directly by students, both at FIBK UMP and our partner faculty,” she remarked.
With the successful execution of this Legislatour, both parties expressed hope that similar initiatives will continue to strengthen inter-campus student legislative networks and serve as a platform for institutional innovation that benefits students.
